HAPPENINGS AROUND HENDERSONVILLE – Where the Claddaugh is only steps away

Throughout the Year:   Flat Rock Playhouse – the State Theatre of North Carolina

The Mainstage facility in Flat Rock seats 506 patrons in air-conditioned comfort. There is reserved seating for patrons with special needs and assistive listening devices are available at no additional charge.  Playhouse Downtown, Hendersonville’s newest theatre just a few blocks from the inn.  The theatre seats 250with comfortable riser seating. April 20:   Henderson County Boyd BBQ Expo

Annual Henderson County Boyd BBQ Expo.  Over 25 competition teams and over 100 exhibitors come to the Hendersonville High School Stadium for a beautiful day of fun and BBQ.  There will also be The Circle C Racing Pigs, a petting zoo, mid-way rides, a police dog demonstration and much, much more.  The entire expo is just a couple blocks from the Claddagh Inn.  It doesn’t get any better.  Park your car and walk to everything.  Rooms book quickly so reserve your room early!

Memorial Day Weekend:   Garden Jubilee Festival

If you like gardening, you’ll want to travel to Hendersonville, NC  for the Annual Garden Jubilee Festival.  Main Street Hendersonville comes alive with thousands of plants.   Over 200 vendors will be selling plants as well as art and food.  There will be guest speakers and industry reps to answer all your gardening questions.  It’s a great opportunity to learn more about turning your yard and garden into the beautiful, relaxing place you have always wanted.  BYOW — bring your own wagon and take home some healthy plants that will remind you of Hendersonville and everything you learned at the Garden Jubilee for many years.

June 7-August 16:   Annual Music on Main Concert Series

Music On Main Street showcases a diverse lineup of musical talents, from pop, oldies, rock, to contemporary music every Friday night from 7-9 pm. Put on your dancing shoes and head to Music On Main Street for some good toe tapping music, where there is a dance area in front of the stage.

June 14-15:   Blue Ridge Barbecue & Music Festival

Annual Festival that is a sanctioned event where cook teams from across the US compete; live music, kids fun park, & Foothills Craft Fair are some of the things you will see here.  Plus the amount of BBQ you can eat!  This event is held at Harmon Field in Tryon  www.blueridgebbqfestival.com

June 21-August 4:   Brevard Music Center Festival

Brevard Music Center Festival, one of country’s premier summer institute and festivals with a community of student and professional musicians held in Brevard www.brevardmusic.org.  The 2013 season features seven weeks of classical masterworks including Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto, Stravinsky’sFirebird, and Beethoven’s beloved Fifth Symphony. The summer festival also includes an outstanding lineup of guest artists ranging from rising stars of the classical world, such as pianist Ji-Yong and violinist Bella Hristova, to two of today’s most celebrated soloists — pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and violinist Joshua Bell.

July 4:   Independence Day Fireworks Display

Independence Day Fireworks Display, at dark, fireworks may be viewed from downtown Hendersonville and the south side of town near the intersection of Hwy. 25 and Hwy. 276, a large red balloon will be launched the morning of the 4th to signify visibility of the fireworks show, if you can see the balloon, you can see the fireworks from your location; www.hendersoncountync.org/recreation.  Plus there is a concert downtown.  You can listen to music and watch the fireworks.

July 8-August 12: Annual Street Dances

95th Annual Street Dances held at the Visitors Information Center-201 S. Main Street, 7-9 PM, featuring mountain heritage bluegrass music, clogging and square dancing, bring a chair.  This event is held every Monday through August 12.   www.historichendersonville.org.

July 12-14: Carolina Mountain Ribfest

Carolina Mountain Ribfest is held at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center featuring World Class professional barbecue rib vendors from all over the country, live entertainment, amusement rides, arts & crafts and more, Fri. 4-11 PM, Sat 11 AM-11 PM, Sun 11 AM-7 PM, www.wcpshows.com/ribfest.html.

Labor Day Weekend:   Apple Festival

The North Carolina Apple Festival is held annually over Labor Day Weekend in Hendersonville, North Carolina. It has been Western North Carolina’s Premier Family Festival for over 60 years.  You can enjoy 4 days of fun including one of the most best known Street Fairs in the Carolinas with Freshly Picked Apples, Arts & Crafts, Festival Food and FREE Entertainment at the Historic Courthouse on Hendersonville’s Beautiful Main Street.

October 5-6:   Art on Main – Fine Art/Fine Craft Show

October: Fall Leaves

The month of October is the best time to view the beautiful fall leaves in the mountains of North Carolina.  We are a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as well as Pisgah Forest and Lake Lure.  The views are breathtaking.  Rooms book very quickly in October so make sure you reserve your room early!

October 24-26:  Fall Harvest Days

Fall Harvest Days is held at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center Fairgrounds.  It is the largest show in Western NC featuring crafters, demonstrations, farm tools, antique engines, antique tractor pulls & swap meet.  Held rain or shine, www.applecountry.org.

October 25-27:  Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair
