Flat Rock Playhouse – the State Theatre of North Carolina

Henderson County houses the State Theatre of North Carolina in our own village of Flat Rock.  The Mainstage facility in Flat Rock seats 506 patrons in air-conditioned comfort. There is reserved seating for patrons with special needs and assisted listening devices are available at no additional charge.  Our new Playhouse Downtown, Hendersonville’s newest theatre, is just a few blocks from the inn.  This theatre seats 250 with comfortable riser seating. You won’t find a bad seat in the house where you can be mere feet away from the action!  You don’t have to travel all the way to New York to see a Broadway play.  Below is a listing of their stage performances for 2013:

Music on the Rock with a Room @ the Inn

The Flat Rock Playhouse has a new theatre downtown aptly called Playhouse Downtown.  They have a concert series that just started featuring music from the following artists:

19th Annual Garden Jubilee Festival Memorial Day Weekend 2012

Main Street Hendersonville comes alive with thousands of plants — It’s a Garden Jubilee!

Garden expert Bill Slack from Southern Living Magazine will be presenting several lectures on Saturday and Sunday:  “Wow, what a beautiful front yard!”; “No sun in your garden? no problem”; and “Through the garden gate, pathways and patios”.  Bill was named the Outstanding Extension Landscape Architect by the American Society of Landscape Architects.  He is returning to Hendersonville for the 10th time.

It is absolutely wonderful to entertain guests in Hendersonville, NC with more festivals, more cultural events, and more fun every year.  Here are the special events you can’t miss next weekend:

  • May 5th — Green River Adventures Spring Bash (music, food, beer) in downtown Saluda
  • May 6th — Bearwallow Beast 5k/Honey and Hops Festival (music, honey, beer) at the top of Bearwallow Mountain
  • May 6th — Billy Jonas performs at the Flat Rock Playhouse to benefit the Playhouse YouTheatre

If you like outdoor music festivals and you’ve never seen Shannon Whitworth, check out the Green River Adventures Spring Bash.  It is one of two events every year that turn the little town of Saluda into the area’s best party.  Shannon and her band will entertain you while you and your family enjoy all that Main Street Saluda has to offer.  Be sure to thank the owners of Green River Adventures who host the event with help from Blue Gypsy and Highland Brewing.

If you can run three miles uphill and are looking for an athletic challenge,  you can try the Bearwallow Beast 5k or you can go to the Honey & Hops festival and cheer on the race finishers.  Brushfire Stankgrass will be performing some bluegrass music with a tremendous mountain view all around.  Enjoy the beauty of Western North Carolina and support Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy at the same time.

If you have kids that like live music, Billy Jonas will be the main attraction at the Flat Rock Playhouse on Saturday evening.  Billy is famous for being the most creative musician you will ever see.  Audience participation is required and a great time is guaranteed.  Come support the YouTheatre and have a memorable evening with the entire family.

St. Patrick’s Day Festival

Come to Hendersonville on March 17th for March of the Leprechauns.  There will be musicians, games for kids, food/refreshments, and everything downtown Hendersonville has to offer.  Named for its rich Irish history, the Claddagh Inn is within walking distance of all the activities including Southern Appalachian Brewery and Hannah Flanagan’s.  Guests of the Claddagh will receive a special complimentary social hour including wine, beer (green beer not allowed), and several food items that our new chef is preparing to celebrate our Irish spirit.

Symphony Performance March 10th

The big event in Hendersonville this weekend is the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Beethoven’s Ninth on March 10th at Blue Ridge Community College.  You can stay at the Claddagh Inn within walking of more than a dozen great restaurants and then enjoy a great classical concert.  All of the Claddagh’s 16 guestrooms are affordably priced for those in town for the symphony or other events.  Visit www.hendersonvillesymphony.org for more information on this concert.

At this time, we do not offer a Sunday Brunch for the general public. But hey, we enjoy a great party as well as the next guy. So, from time to time, the Claddagh Inn will provide special public events and Sunday Brunches. We’ll give you plenty of notice and encourage community participation for these events.
