The WORLD’S LARGEST drive-through, fully synchronized, LED Christmas light and synchronized music show. There are over sixteen hundred individual and unique channels simultaneously directing this orchestra of lights. The festivities don’t stop at the end of the drive-through route. Guests of the light show can stay and visit the huge Santa’s Village where they can meet and have a photo with Santa Claus while enjoying festive refreshments like gourmet hot cocoa, coffee, funnel cakes, fried Oreos and snickers, roasted marshmallows complete with s’mores, and more! 2014 Polar Express Excursions

November 7th 2014 – January 4, 2015, Friday & Saturday only; 5pm, 6:35pm, & 8:15pm departures at The Great Smokey Mountain Train Depot. GPS: 226 Everett St, Bryson City, NC 28713. Couch Admission: Adults: $40, Children: $26; First Class: Adults: $60, Children: $41. A favorite area holiday tradition for kids of all ages, including the adults! The popular book by Chris Van Allsburg is a story of a magical train ride on Christmas Eve. The train takes a young boy to the North Pole to receive a special gift from Santa Claus. The 1.25-hour round-trip excursion comes to life as the train departs the Bryson City depot for a journey through the quiet wilderness for a special visit at the North Pole. Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, guests on board enjoy warm cocoa and a treat while listening and reading along with the magical story. Children’s faces show the magic of the season when the train arrives at the “North Pole” to find Santa Claus waiting. Santa will board The Polar Express, greeting each child and presenting them with a special gift as in the story, their own silver sleigh bell. Christmas carols will be sung as they return back to the Bryson City Depot.

22nd Annual Grove Park Inn’s National Gingerbread House Competition

 Nov. 19, 2014 -Jan. 1, 2015; Wed-Sun(excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day), 9am-9pm at The Grove Park Inn Resort. GPS: 280 Macon Ave, Asheville. Free admission.  $10 parking fee per vehicle. You’ll find plenty of this spicy holiday favorite during The Omni Grove Park Inn’s National Gingerbread House Competition, celebrating more than 20 years of decorative sugar castles and holiday cookie creativity. From the whimsical to the elaborate, there are gingerbread houses of every size, shape, complexity and theme. You’ll find quaint rustic cabins, gumdrop-adorned castles and sugar spun landscapes to inspire your own gingerbread traditions. The main structure should be constructed of at least 75% gingerbread, some of which should be exposed. Edible materials are not limited to candies and icings. Most entries are on the main lobby floor in both wings. Get a map at the information desk in the lobby. As you walk to the various display areas, see some of the 80 decorated trees in the historic, grand hotel.

Flat Rock Playhouse – the State Theatre of North Carolina

Henderson County houses the State Theatre of North Carolina in our own village of Flat Rock.  The Mainstage facility in Flat Rock seats 506 patrons in air-conditioned comfort. There is reserved seating for patrons with special needs and assisted listening devices are available at no additional charge.  Our new Playhouse Downtown, Hendersonville’s newest theatre, is just a few blocks from the inn.  This theatre seats 250 with comfortable riser seating. Beat the Heat with Top 5 Ways To Cool Off

It’s warm everywhere, so let’s cool off in the Hendersonville NC area with 5 choices for beating the heat:

  •    Dupont State Forest — You can take pictures or you can take your swimsuit and get in the water.    Please be careful!   The parking
  •     for High Falls, Triple Falls, and Hooker Falls is a scenic 25 minute drive from the Claddagh.   This area was one of the filming
  •     for the movie “The Hunger Games” and it has been been a favorite spot for visitors and residents for generations.
  •    Green River Adventures (Saluda) —  Take a guided kayak adventure down the Green River and stop for a swim along the way.  It is a
  •    fun half-day trip for the whole family and a great way to try a new sport while witnessing the beauty of the Green River Gorge.
  •    Sliding Rock (Brevard)  – For a small fee you can experience a natural waterslide in Pisgah National Forest.  The plunge at the base of
  •    the slide is exhilarating and don’t forget to check out the other sites in the National Forest.
  •    Little Bradley Falls (Saluda)  –  Smaller falls, less dangerous, no crowds, but still beautiful and well worth the 20 minute walk from
  •    the parking area.
  •    Ice cold glass of lemonade on the front porch of the Claddagh Inn.

St. Patrick’s Day Festival

Come to Hendersonville on March 17th for March of the Leprechauns.  There will be musicians, games for kids, food/refreshments, and everything downtown Hendersonville has to offer.  Named for its rich Irish history, the Claddagh Inn is within walking distance of all the activities including Southern Appalachian Brewery and Hannah Flanagan’s.  Guests of the Claddagh will receive a special complimentary social hour including wine, beer (green beer not allowed), and several food items that our new chef is preparing to celebrate our Irish spirit.
